Inspired by a trip to Palm Springs The Las Palmas Residence is located in Noosa Heads, Queensland. With a contemporary, minimalist approach to design and an exercise in restraint, the floor plan has successfully maximised the built area whilst creating generous indoor-outdoor spaces throughout the site. It allows an opening-up of the home, and this consequentially becomes a focus, ensuring meaningful and curated connections with an amazingly planned sequence of framed views.

LAS PALMAS PAYS TRIBUTE TO A TIME OF EXPERIMENTAL CLEAN, UNINTERRUPTED LINEAR ARCHITECTURE

The home is remarkable in providing a careful balance between the client’s desire for a private refuge that also affords a prospect towards the river and a generous connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. This is where Turnerarc’s fully integrated capabilities came into play – consult/design, supply/installation and instruction/best practice of the varied window furnishing and shading systems that the house required.

To retain privacy, whilst retaining the incredible views we recommended and installed Verosol Motorised Ambience Roller Blinds with Somfy Automation. Bringing modern convenience easily into the home thus adding to the overall value and enhancing the living experience for it’s owners.

To soften the minamilst athestic and add subtle texture and form to the bedroom, bathroom and living ares TurnerArc recommended and installed sheer and blockout SFold ceiling fixed Curtains using carefully selected Warwick Fabrics.

To counter-balance afternoon glare and to add a decorative touch to the style of home, aligning with the unique spirit of it’s design TurnerArc recommended Horiso Shading Systems External Venetian Blinds. External Venetians allow precise light control and reduce the sun’s penetration by up to 90%, reducing the effect of solar radiation and enhancing natural daylight whilst preserving the view. We added Somfy Automation to the EVBs allowing the owners to love light as well as play with its subtle modulations, again adding so much value to the residence and enhancing the living experience all round.

Regarding sustainability, the amount of concrete needs to be offset with the proposed durability and quality of the build, and hence we feel that the lifetime embodied energy would be low. The house is well appointed with 15kW of PV, Tesla Battery Systems. Ample thermal mass combined with TurnerArc Shading Systems energy reduction shading systems a and great cross ventilation allows the users to rarely need artificial heating or cooling.

A brilliant collaboration between client architect and builder and TurnerArc Shading Systems, and the outcome is something to be extremely proud of. Tim Ditchfield Architects reinterprets the iconic elements of contemporary modernism and has created a beautiful, practical, sustainable home of lasting resonance.
